Organizing an event of this scale is not possible without the cooperation of the city of Ostrava and the Moravian-Silesian region. They both support the event not only organizationally, but also financially, contributing 2 million Czech crowns. “I believe everybody will enjoy the event’s special atmosphere, not only in their districts, but especially at the stadium, either as fans who will enjoy the first day of autumn holidays with their families or as participants. I’m looking forward to introducing Ostrava from different angles than usual through the TV broadcast and to welcoming colleagues from our partner cities. Including colleagues from Košice, where they hold the oldest marathon is Europe.“ described the Mayor of Ostrava, Jan Dohnal. Košice Peace Marathon is also a partner race of the Emil Zátopek Ostrava Golden Marathon. Thus, the oldest marathon is connecting with the youngest. “A good quality marathon at the European level serves as a great invitation to the region. Sport therefore makes one of the most important ambassadors. Such events make the city and the region very noticeable. Nobody in the athlete’s community around the world doubts where Ostrava is located. This is a priceless advertisement and a promotion, and I say that, fully aware of the money we use to support the event. Large athletic events, Emil Zátopek Ostrava Golden Marathon included, are a treasure not only for the region, but for athletics itself, because it is thanks to them that the reputation of athletics in Ostrava and the Moravian-Silesian Region is so sensational," sums up Stanislav Folwarczny, the Deputy Governor of the region.
